A New Year- Preparing

Is there anything better than new school supplies?

I’ve always loved that new box of crayon smell and the sound of flipping through an empty spiral notebook and just thinking about what will be filling it by the end of the year.

Even as a student I was a nerd :)

Now, it is getting lessons and supplies ready for my children that has me all excited. We use AmblesideOnline.com for our main curriculum, and if you know anything about it, that means lots of new books! That may be the one thing I love more than new school supplies. I can’t wait to see what my children get from my beloved favorites and even more can’t wait to learn myself from titles that I’ve never read before. I think that’s my favorite thing about this method of homeschooling, I am learning right along with them.

This year we are adding a few things. We are going to try to add ASL as a foreign language and piano lessons from an app I found called simplypiano. While I play the piano fairly well, I am happy to have a little help in teaching them, especially the basics. Also we are going to be more consistent with our nature study and time outside (I think I write this here as accountability as much as anything!) That is something we have been pretty sporadic about so far, so really hoping to make it a focus moving forward.

So as August gets underway, we are in preparation mode. How about you? Whether you homeschool or send your kids to some sort of school, what is your favorite thing about back to school?
